I’m going to talk about running – something I’ve been into recently. Whether I keep running or not, I believe everything I write will continue to be true.
I used to think running was the most boring of activities. You may still think that! I would get up out of bed, lace up the tennies, put on a podcast, and head out the door. I could make it a couple miles just fine, I even completed a half marathon once!
A few things have changed since I thought running was boring:
- I don’t listen to anything while running anymore (well, maybe a metronome set to 180 bpm).
- I have either no shoes or just sandals on my feet.
- I’ve grown more content over the years.

It’s hard for me to divorce the way I used to run, with talking heads in ear, and how I run now, with the ability to think or pray. When I return, the wife will ask, “How’d it go?” “It’s so nice and quiet out there,” is usually the response. It’s peaceful and prevents headaches.
I’ve also considered what activities have been around the longest. Paul talks about two sports in the Holy Scriptures: boxing (more on that in the future) and running. He talks about running more.
Basketball, in all its glory, has only been around 100 years. Baseball is older, but I’m not sure why it sticks around. Soccer is older than those two combined. Running is foundational to almost every sport. If Paul can use running for spiritual analogies, and if most every sport requires running in some form, then why do we overlook it? I think there’s more there we’re missing by doing something “more exciting” than running.

Baseball isn’t that bad….

you ought to be ashamed of yourself for making fun of the great American game. Also, it must take a lot of perseverance to run without shoes. Great blog though.

Thans for the encouragement. I suspect I’ll see you commenting if I diss the “great American game” again sometime.

Personally, I believe that baseball is actually an awesome sport. It feels so good and the crack of the bat is just *chef’s kiss*. However, getting hit by a baseball…that’s a….special experience. But alas, I will forever be biased that soccer is superior.

Soccer is better than baseball; I agree. We agree on something!

running can be fun (as long as its not 75 and above!) Podcasts helped me start wanting to get out more, so….
Running being the foundation of every sport is great, but there are still some sports that don’t use it (We should just get rid of those). Basketball has also been around longer than that….
