Sometimes it takes a few times to sink in. Lord willing, we learn from other people’s mistakes. Usually for me, I have to learn from my own. Even then, I’m a slow learner. Once is usually not enough! That’s how it was with my laziness problem. Yes, a full grown adult who the Lord needed to convict of laziness. Let me set the scene.
When you buy a house, the inspector gives you a long list of things that you could improve on the house. Or things you need to keep an eye out for moving forward. It’s a great thing, and you pay big bucks for it! Look at the list, people. Abide by the list.
As you may have already guessed, the list wasn’t my biggest priority. First house, excitement galore, no kids, social life in full swing. Had I read the list, I would have gotten to work on the 14 windows immediately. They were new windows, but the wood around them was older. Had I gone around and painted them the first summer, I would have spent a tenth of the time I eventually did in working on those windows.
Then, there were the bricks. The list said to have the bricks looked at and tuck-pointed. To tuck point is to remove the current mortar and replace it with fresh mortar. It’s really quite simple work, which is why my father and I were ready to do it. Of course, this was years after the list. By the time we got to it (my fault – not his), the bricks needed to be relaid. They needed to be removed altogether and put back down. As you can imagine, that cost a pretty penny. My laziness cost me again – this time monetarily.
Then, I finally learned my lesson! I read it in a book (see below).

What’s fantastic is that, after spending so much time on the windows, then spending so much money on the bricks, I made a comment at the bottom of this page in the book: “Lord, is this me?” How was I so blind!?
So, faithful reader, are you lazy? Do you put off for tomorrow what you should be doing today? I promise you – it will cost you someday. The Lord cares for His children, and He won’t let us be lazy. He loves us too much for that.

This is exactly what I needed!
