Handwritten Notes

I had an idea. Those come along once in a while; I love it when they do. Sometimes they are ideas that I can take action on immediately, I like those best. The hard ones are ideas for other people; they often don’t care. I’m sure you would, but most people don’t want to hear about how they can make their lives better. I’ve learned not to take it personally.

This idea was the better kind. I went out and got it going that day. I bought five composition notebooks. You know, the cheap ones with the marbled covers? They don’t have a spiral, so the pages won’t come out easily. It was imperative that these notebooks last for years and years to come.

Inside the cover, I put the piece of paper above. This was to make sure I kept the goal in mind that I had. My kids could keep me honest, and I had a better chance of doing what I said I would. I wanted them to have something they would keep forever.

One regret I have is that it took me this long to figure out this kind of thing. I repented to the wife the day I came up with this. If I had done it for her from the get go, she would have over 150 handwritten notes from me over the course of our marriage. Now, I make sure to write to her the first Thursday of every month.

Don’t take for granted what small changes can do in your life! The Lord has put only a few people in your life for the rest of your life. Treat them well (hint: love your nearest neighbors) and see what God can do through those relationships.
