Live Like It’s True

I spent 18 years as a non-Christian. My formative years were spent in darkness, though I did have much light. I was taught to work hard, to treat others with respect, and to do many things myself. I am very grateful for the upbringing I had under my parents. They weren’t perfect, and they still aren’t Christians, but the Lord used them to instill within me some admirable qualities.

So, when I did become a Christian, I had a lot of unlearning to do. I’m still doing my best to grow (in the Spirit) every day. One guiding concept I’ve found helpful is to “Live Like It’s True.” Where “It” is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 4 makes it clear that we should be continually putting off our sin, being renewed in our minds, and putting on the new man. This is a daily, ongoing struggle. Sometimes, we’ll feel like we’re making great progress! Others, quite the opposite – but don’t quit!

By saying “Live Like It’s True” (and putting a sign on my wall), I don’t mean that “it” isn’t true. I mean that I need to live like it. I don’t always live like it. I need to continually practice living like it.

One thing I’m meditating on these days is the person of Christ from Colossians 1:

“Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.

For in Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.

And He is before all things,
And in Him all things hold together.”

Jesus made the person you’re talking to! He holds together the person you are fearing. Why would we be ashamed of Him when He is before that person. It was all made through Christ and for Christ. “He made the sea and the dry land.” So often I act like it’s not. Lord forgive me. I need to “Live Like It’s True” – because it is. Eternally.

  1. One of my all time favorites passages is Romans 12. Be transformed by the renewing of our minds… I enjoyed these thoughts. Living like IT is true, is much different and deeper, richer even — than simply knowing it’s true.
