Throw Foam Golf Balls at Chipmunks

There’s a park not too far from our house that has a huge hill called Centennial Park (see the view from the hill).

One very cool thing about this park is the number of rodents that peek their heads out of their holes as you are walking around. The first time we went there as a family, the kids chased the rodents around for quite a while.

Well, I wasn’t quite sure what the rodents were until last night. As such, I kept calling them prairie dogs or groundhogs interchangeably. When I was thinking of fun things to do one day, I thought: “Wouldn’t it be fun to shoot the groundhogs at the park with Bennett’s BB gun?”

I texted a buddy this thought. “Yes it would!” was the reply.

I then responded, “Well, is it legal?”

“Oh dear, by no means!” Rats, foiled yet again.

This didn’t stop me thinking about it though! Therefore, not too many days passed before I floated the idea to Bennett: we should throw those foam golf balls at the prairie dogs at the park!

He didn’t need much convincing.

I must say, we looked very cool out there with our bag of yellow golf balls. We had to keep quiet, or they would drop into their holes. We had to creep around, or they would see the sudden movements.

Yes, there was a whole cross country team running up the big hill over and over. This didn’t stop the hunt.

Eventually, I did hit one (Bennett got really close a number of times). I heard the thud, and Bennett said he stopped moving for a second before running into his hole. He didn’t know what hit him!

Is there any reason to sit around being bored in God’s world? There are endless possibilities to explore; try something new today. How many people would just put on a movie and sit on the couch? Not you though! You are going to live the life God gave you to the fullest!
