Here’s some wisdom from another pastor we had in St. Louis.
The wife and I were going through it. House fire (more on that later), staying with friends, then family. Cleaning the house and trying to get everything taken care of. Insurance claims to boot. All the while, I was working at a new job: my first year at Westminster Christian Academy.
Of course, the wife had it worse than I did. All day in someone else’s home, and not her own, with a four month old baby girl. Circumstances like these can wear on you.
To add insult to injury, we received a bill in the mail from the hospital that we weren’t expecting. I don’t know what you’ve seen, but in our experience, you don’t find out how much you owe the hospital until months after you go there.
Well, we felt we were burdening our pastor with all our troubles. I can’t remember if it was me or the wife, but one of us mentioned to Pastor Noah, “We know you’re busy…”
What he said has stuck with us: “Yes, I’m busy. But this is what I’m supposed to be busy with!”
He then pointed at the hospital bill and said, “Would it help if the church took care of this? Someone recently gave about this to the church and said we should give it to someone who needs it.” We were in awe of God’s goodness.
A pastor is used by God in order to care for His sheep. They carry a heavy load. We sheep have a lot going on that we have a hard time handling. The Lord has given us men to lead and feed us.
So, next time you’re wondering: “Should I bring this to my pastor? I mean, he’s got so much going on right now!” The answer is yes. It’s what he’s paid to do. More importantly, it’s what he’s called by God to do.
